the pictures are of the mathematical bridge, homerton, our tour bus, and king's college.
well i still don't have internet on my computer, but lauryn has so generously allowed me to use hers. they are going to try to fix it tomorrow.
we have spent the past few days learning about cambridge and homerton, exploring, wandering... the city is beautiful. i am amazed at how much we all have in common. i didn't realize how big the university is -- it has 31 colleges! my favorite is king's college (besides homerton, of course). we have taken a bus tour twice and we saw the American Cemetery for soldiers who died in WWII and it was overwhelming the amount of names on the wall and crosses. we have met some homerton students and they have all been very nice to us.
we had high tea yesterday with our teachers, so it was good to meet them because today was the first day. i have 28 students in my class, and in the same room there are also about 30 students. several of my students are identified as "special needs" although i saw them all produce great work today. they are all very cute and energetic. they are very well behaved and they know what is expected of them. i went with them to PE and music and it was nice to see them in a context outside of the classroom. they are just delightful and i heard one of them say "SHE's taller than my mom AND my dad AND my grandfather!" and another said "She doesn't sound that weird." too funny. we do have about a 45 minute bus ride to and from the school and we have to be there from 8 to 5. actual school time is 9:00 to 3:20. the school is in a rough neighborhood and many of the students do not have a lot of parent involvement but the school environment is great, and i am excited to be a part of it!
